J&J is a basketball scouting-statistical-evaluation agency
founded by Giampiero Hruby in 1996. Since 1996-97, we have
been following the principal leagues in Europe: game-by-game, player-by-player, team-by-team. The
database we have created and
developed in this period of time has personal information and basketball statistics on more that
25,000
players. Without any
doubt, this is the most complete and richest source of such information regarding European players.
In these first four years, J&J has earned the reputation of being a
service that is impartial, accurate, trustworthy
and easily accessible at the international level. We have developed a network of contacts in over 100
nations around the
world, with a total of over 200 contributors and correspondents.
Starting in November of 2000, much of this information will be
available, free of charge, through our WebSite,
WorldBasket.com. In this 2000-01 season, J&J will constantly follow some 20+ leagues, the most
important
in the world outside
the USA. For this reason, J&J will be able to offer its clients exclusive information on thousands of
players, such as: the
performance of a player at home and on the road; in his last three games; when his team wins or loses;
in the regular season
and in the playoffs; in the first months of the season and in the last months of the season; etc., etc.
All of this
information can also be used to evaluate against the same data from previous seasons, in different
competitions, with
different teams, with club teams and with national teams. All of this will permit the user to know the
player that much better
and, therefore, have a deeper evaluation of his present and potential level of play.
J&J service is directed towards television, newspapers, magazines,
Federations, Leagues, Clubs, Managers, Coaches,
Agents, Scouts, Broadcasters, Sports Writers and, of course, Fans.
But J&J is not just a database. In fact, in June 1998, with the
co-authorship of Dan Peterson, J&J published the 1st
edition of "The European Basketball Register" in English, Spanish and Italian. In November 1998, with
the co-authorship of Dan
Peterson, J&J published the "Almanacco MOLTEN del Basket Italiano." In June 1999, the 2nd edition of
"The J&J European
Basketball Register" and the 1st edition of "The J&J World Basketball Register". In October 1999, J&J
published the 1st
edition "The J&J Italian Basketball Register". In June 2000, the 3rd edition of "The J&J European
Basketball Register" and the
2nd edition of "The J&J World Basketball Register". In October 2000, J&J published the 2nd edition "The
J&J Italian Basketball
Register".
During the period from June of 1998 to October of 2000, J&J has
published 8 different "Registers" in various
languages, such as English, Italian, and Spanish. Thanks to this effort, J&J is the uncontested European
leader in the sector.
In these registers, we have technical profiles and statistics for over 2,000 players. In effect, we have
all of the top
European players, EC and non-EC players included, and the top non-European players (coming from Canada,
the USA, South
America, Africa, etc.), all of which are of interest to the European Basketball market.
One of the "original" features of these Registers is the method of
giving a fixed evaluation for each player, basing
this ranking against all European players and all European leagues. In fact, these Registers introduced,
for the first time in
Europe, the concept of rating players from 1 star (*), the lowest ranking, to 5 stars (*****), the
highest possible ranking.
We think these stars are a "working tool" for coaches, general managers, scouts and executives that must
make hard evaluations
with regard to choosing or changing a player.
Our Motives for Publishing the Registers: We are not agents. Nor are we an 'agency' of any sort.
We do
not represent
players, coaches, teams, clubs, federations or 'special interests' of
any kind. The only 'special interest' of J&J is that of
the impartial evaluation of players that are within our range of observations. These evaluations are
done with two things in
mind: total objectivity and 100% accuracy. Yes, there are other offices that offer this type of service.
But they may also
represent players. It's hard to maintain objectivity in the ranking or evaluation of players when your
own player is included
in the mix. It's only human, normal, that statistics may become 'selective' and your ratings become
'weighted'. That's not the
case with J&J. The player evaluations given by J&J are, to use the American word, 'ruthless,' without
pity. That means we are
totally objective, even if that puts a player in a negative light. So, this is the way J&J deals with
its player evaluations
today, and will deal with its team and coach evaluations tomorrow, with total impartiality.
