Giampiero Hruby was born in Trieste, Italy, on 6 November 1960. At age 12, he
began playing basketball in the school programs in Udine. At 16, he was playing in Italy's 3rd Division and began his coaching
career for Mario Valle's youth teams in Udine's Polisportiva Friulana.
At 19, he moved to Milan and enrolled in the ISEF, and to coach youth teams in the
programs of Olympia-Billy Milan, where Dan Peterson was the head coach. He assisted at that level for three years, 1979-82,
then became assistant coach of Lebole Mestre, under head coach Moncho Monsalve, moving up to assistant head coach under
Claudio Bardini, as Lebole competed in Italy's top A-1 Division. He was also head coach of Lebole's junior team under the
direction of Owner-president Pieraldo Celada. He received his diploma as National Coach in 1983.
In 1983-84, he is hired by Honky Fabriano, in Italy's A-1, where he stayed for six
years, running all youth teams and acting as assistant coach for head coaches Massimo Mangano and Petar Skansi.
In 1989-90, he became assistant coach and head junior team coach for Scavolini Pesaro,
in Italy's A-1, under head coach Sergio Robert Scariolo, staying for three years. Scavolini won the Italian national title his

assistant coach and head junior team coach by Hyundai Desio, in A-2, under the ownership of Pieraldo Celada and under head
coach Sergio Robert Scariolo.
In 1993-94, he is promoted to head coach of ELE.CON Desio, in A-2. That year, Desio won
A-2 and was advanced immediately to the playoffs, where they lost, 2-1, to powerful Olympia Milan. Desio did not field a team
the following season, as ownership sold their rights to A-1 to another team and discontinued all activity. In 1993-94, Hruby
was head coach of Koncret Rimini in A-2. His overall head coaching record is 35-22, .614, in two seasons.
His youth team record was more extensive. As head coach of the Lombardy team, he won the
prestigious Decio Scuri Trophy in 1982. His teams took part in seven national tournament finals, taking three third places:
1986 with Fabriano's Cadet team; and in 1989-90 and 1991-92 with Scavolini's Junior teams. He was voted Best Youth Team Head
Coach for the year 1985-86. Two of his youth team players have played for Italy's National Team and more than 25 have played
in Italy's Series A, either in A-1 or A-2.
